| Through
a partnership with Angus Council, Angus
Housing Association and Communities Scotland,
we are now beginning to see marked improvements
in standards of housing. The tenement blocks
are now demolished and Angus Housing Association
has built a good selection of family houses
and flats. Hillcrest Housing Association
is also building new housing in the area.
The gateway to the estate, the Mayfield
Shops, has not been forgotten, Angus Council
are removing the derelict flats and re-facing
the shops, due to start in early 2007. |

As we all know,
regeneration is not just about bricks and mortar,
ARCH (and sister organisation People First Cliffburn)
continue to initiate improvement in the facilities
available within the area; the lack of social
opportunities for all age groups; growing levels
of anti social behaviour; and poor economic,
employment and health standards.
ARCH operates
from the Community Office, 8 Mayfield Terrace
and is organised by a Management Committee of
dedicated volunteers. While ARCH is a Registered
Tenant Organisation for both Angus Council and
Angus Housing Association it remains an independent
voluntary organisation representing the views
of the residents of Cliffburn and Hayshead,
constantly pushing to bring about change and
improve services for the community. ARCH now
focuses on representing the areas resident in
support of housing issues and improving community
facilities, handing over the organisation of
social events to sister organisation PFC. ARCH
provides a quarterly newsletter to nearly 2000
local households. This is a good way of communicating
with local residents and we have been lucky
with financial support provided by Comic Relief.
Future project will
see ARCH continuing the challenge of reducing
antisocial behaviour with the estates of Cliffburn
and Hayshead, working in partnership with the
Police, Community Wardens, local businesses
and other organisations.
If you
are community minded and would like to get involved
by volunteering or supporting locally organised
activities please contact the community office
for more details.
