The Association of Residents of Cliffburn and Hayshead (or Cliffburn Association of Residents, as it was in those days ) main focus had been to organised a number of events including children’s discos, fun days, Christmas parties and a number of fund raising events to build community spirit and provide much needed social activity.

After consulting with fellow tenants and identifying what issues they saw as key to improving the area it soon became apparent the overwhelming view of the community was that there was little for kids to do in the area.

This was also the main reason for the kids hanging around in the streets and around the local shops. Despite the fact that boredom often led to anti social behaviour and vandalism the community had a great deal of sympathy with the young people of the area.

This then, was the catalyst that started the idea to develop an area of waste ground into a Community Park. The waste ground chosen had once, many years ago, been a play park, but had now been left to rot and in fact Angus Council had placed temporary homes on the site.

It soon became obvious Angus Council didn’t have the money available to invest in a park and the association would need to start the daunting task of raising the funding to build it themselves, if a park was to be built.
