Both People First Cliffburn and the Association of Residents of Cliffburn and Hayshead provide their services to the community with the help of volunteers. There are many opportunities within the organisation from the management committee, supporting events organised for the communtiy, fundraising activities, driving and newsletter delivery.

There can be many reasons why people volunteer, there is still the feel good factor of helping others, which is very rewarding. A growing number of people use volunteering as a method of gaining work experience and a reference that could eventually lead to a new and interesting career. It is also a way of meeting people and socialising or putting something back into society. But whatever the reason why people volunteer time, one thing is very clear, many organisations within the voluntary sector could not provide the level of service they do, without this support. Volunteers are often described as being worth their weight in gold! They bring a wealth of experience and skills to the organisation that otherwise could not be accessed with limited financial resources.

The Procedure for potential volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering, the best way to start the process is to contact the office for an informal chat. The types of activities and volunteering oppurtunities will be explained to you. There is an application form to be completed and you are required to give the name of someone to act as a referee.

It is worth pointing out that all volunteers are required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check. We often provide services and activities for vurnerable people and children and we take this responsibility very seriously. This process will not cost you anything and all information is stored safely and any information provided is in confidence.
